What are the registration fees for the new applicants registering via the Unified Registration System (URS)?
Fees for new applicants using the URS online application (Form MCSA-1) since December 2015 did not change. Currently, applicants pay a separate $300 fee for each distinct operating authority registration requested. But no separate fee is imposed for safety registration (USDOT Number), a separate registration type required by the URS final rule and Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21).
Pursuant to the URS rule, after URS is fully implemented, new applicants will be required to pay a $300 registration fee for each distinct registration type requested, including safety registration. The fee charged for each registration requested covers FMCSA's costs for processing the registration request.
Please note that this change in the fees will not take place until URS is fully implemented. A date for that implementation has not yet been set.
On January 17, 2017, FMCSA published a Federal Register notice suspending the January 14 and April 14, 2017 URS effectiveness dates.
